ESL Volunteer Teacher job description

Job Title:  Volunteer ESL teacher

Job Summary:  To teach English to adult internationals, refugees, and immigrants so they can function more fully in the United States and to intentionally demonstrate and share the love of Jesus Christ with ESL students.

1.  A sense of mission or calling from God to this ministry.
2.  Ability to speak, read, and write English, generally as a native speaker.
3.  Completion of a basic ESL workshop.
4.  Commitment to teach for a period of at least one semester during a school year (Sept-Dec / Jan-May).

1.  Prepare for and teach an ESL class once a week when school is in session.
2.  Correspond with my Co-teacher and/or TA on a regular basis.
3.  Arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class to have time to prepare and talk with my students.  If this is not impossible, I will arrange for someone (such as my TA) to be available at that time.
4.  Arrange for someone else to teach my class when I cannot be there.
5.  Demonstrate and model the love of Jesus Christ in every contact with my ESL students.
6.  Regularly pray for and with my ESL students.
7.  Intentionally share the gospel of Jesus Christ with my ESL students.
8.  Contact students by phone, text, letter, personal visit, or card when they are absent more than two weeks in a row.
9.  Attend teachers' meetings.
10.  Attend additional teacher trainings and events when possible.
